Hi everybody I am so excited and proud that I went to my first Preeclampsia walk. The walk is called “Promise walk” and is to bring awareness about the dangers of preeclampsia, Eclampsia and Hellp syndrome. The walk I went to was this past Sunday and it was amazing! I learned so much about the symptoms and how it is very important to talk about it with your friends, family, and loved ones. I went with my boyfriend, my older and little sister, and my aunt who I thank so much for supporting me in this walk. As many of you know if you read my about me page I was affected by this illness and for me is very important to support and donate to this foundation because we need to save lives.
Since this was my first year doing the Promise Walk my teams goal was 500$ to raise by May 18th which was the actual day of the walk. Let me tell you that our goal was met! I want to thank to all my family and friends who made this possible and who supported me in this, you do not know how I appreciate it with all of my heart. I have to say that next year my goal will be higher since I can plan a little earlier and have more knowledge on how to do fundraisers, sorry friends and family but I need your money again!
I am so proud to be part of this Walk and to have reached my goal, someone please give me a cookie!. So let me tell you a little bit about the Walk, well we got there at around 10am where they were doing the registration. The volunteers gave us our goodie bags and were even nice enough to give us our other team members that couldn’t make it to the walk. I even received an extra gift for reaching my goal, yay me!!. So we proceeded to the raffle table where we bought some tickets and place them on the items we wanted to win, you know me I went straight to the basket where it had kids stuff in it to see if I would win anything for my children. Sadly I didn’t win anything waaaaah .
The opening ceremony followed soon after and everyone stood and listened to the event planner and speaker talk about about her preeclampsia story. She also invited another family who had a different outcome from this illness, it was a father and his twin boys who spoke about their experience and life without his wife and their mom who did not survive the illness. A doctor also spoke about preeclampsia and gave us an insight on what they are doing to make more research and find the cause of this illness. Overall it was a great ceremony there was tears(mostly from me and other women), happiness and also a sense of achievement that we were able to raise money and also walk not only for all the surviving mothers and babies but for those who did not win the battle against preeclampsia. I had a great time at the Promise Walk for Preeclampsia and I will definitely with God’s blessing go next year and every year that I can to bring awareness and donations to get one step closer to finding the cause and cure for this illness.
Now let me stop babbling and lets see pictures!
