The winter is here and you know what that mean, yes you guessed the cold season is here.

I live in New York and let me tell you it is freezing with a capital F. The weather was a little crazy because we had warm days, like last week with up to 60 degrees. Now we are in the low 30’s.

The cold weather just makes it that much harder to get up in the morning because all I want to do is sleep. Well that’s not going to happen since I have to take my daughter to school and my butt to school as well. A girl can only dream when she will have a good night sleep and actually sleep 8 hours straight.

My children have a cold so that is never Bueno because the nights are longer, I get dark bags under my eyes(so attractive) and it sometimes consist of me cleaning vomit.

As a parent I feel terrible when my kids get sick and I think you can agree with me on this one. So I have decided to share my top tips for treating a cold.  It really helps my kids feel better and I always feel happy when my kids are beating this terrible monster the cold.

My T0p 12 Tips for treating your child’s c0ld…

  • Avoid the outdoors

My hubby is a true advocate for this one because it is important. Try to avoid the outdoors as much as possible because you do not want your child to get more sick. Do not send your child to school at least for one day until you know your child is getting better. Even if your child does not go to school follow this step it will help with your child feeling much better. Staying indoors helps not spread the cold virus and also helps your child get better faster.

  • Drinks a lot of fluids

Always listen to your child’s pediatrician and don’t they always say give your child a lot of fluids. So this is exactly what I do and you should do too. Giving your child liquids helps them be hydrated and that is always a good thing. Also I like to give my kids orange juice because it helps with the cold and gives them their vitamin c.

  • Give them soft foods

having a cold can sometimes contribute to getting a soar throat so I like to give my children soft foods that is easier to eat and swallow. Some of the foods consists of mashed potatoes, soup, and apple sauce.

  • Use Vick’s vapor rub

Love using this even on myself, you know there was one time that couldn’t sleep without it(I think I was addicted). I apply some on my hands then I rub my hands together to evenly spread it and I apply it on my kids. I rub it on their chest and backs because it makes them breath better. I also rub some in their beds where they usually have their heads on because it helps them sleep. The smells is also soothing so is great.

  • The nebulizer

The nebulizer is used primary for kids and adults who have asthma. I use it on my kids too even if they don’t have asthma because their pediatrician prescribed it and it works for them to breathe better. You know that with stuffy noses and “bad chest” is hard for the kids to breathe properly so the nebulizer really is a great choice for that. I recommend this even if your child does not have asthma, your pediatrician has to prescribe you the medicine and your child is on their way for a better breathing.

  • Warm bath

I use the Johnson’s baby bath for colds to give my kids a bath. I love that it gives a soothing aroma to the whole bathroom and it really works in my opinion. I don’t like to keep my kids for long in the water because they do have a cold so the faster you take them out the better.

  • Sleep

Getting a good amount of sleep helps everyone to feel better imagine the kids. Make sure they get their naps and they get some rest. They will wake up with energy and in a good mood. If your child is like my 5 year old that does not take naps then you can just lay your child down on the couch. Put a movie on and turn off the lights, they will get some rest either way.

  • Avoid milk

I avoid milk for my twins only because they tend to cough a lot and they usually spit it out. Also their pediatrician recommended not to give them a lot of milk. A good trick I do is to add water to their milk so it wont be that dense. So I add half of the milk in their bottles and then half of water. Milk makes my twins get reflux when they have a cold and cough a lot so is better if they don’t drink it as much or like I said I like to add water to it.

  • Humidifier

The humidifier is great to have in your child’s room because it adds moisture and cleans the air. Is good to keep the air in the room circulating so the cold virus won’t stay for long and also provides some relief to your child.

  • Warm cozy pajamas

I really think your child’s comfort should also be a priority in making them feel better. You child is most likely fuzzy and cranky so putting them in their favorite pajamas makes them feel happy.

  • Nasal aspirator

Yes this one is a must because it sucks all the boogies out of your child nose. Nasal aspirator has to be on hand because your child will have a running nose. Also they will feel uncomfortable with their runny nose, so having a nasal aspirator will ease the feeling.

  • Hugs and Kisses

Always provide your child with a lot of affection when they are sick or in this case have a cold. It is horrible to be sick so a hug and a kiss will go a long way.3fd09a63-5556-4bfc-8f37-9101685a3e86_zpsec50f11e

I hope the tips helps you treat your child’s cold and make them feel better.

  • No salir
