How to make Tostones…
Happy Tuesday! and do you know there are two more days for Christmas. I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. I am excited that tomorrow is Christmas eve because we are having a big get together at my parents house. My mom has been hosting Christmas Eve for a pretty long time and it is always fun.
I thought I share with you a pretty simple recipe that only requires green plantains. You can even add this side dish to your food menu. I am Dominican and I do have to say that we eat green plantains a lot. Specially the oh so famous Mangu which are mashed plantains.
Tostones are fried plantains and they look like plantain chips. You can eat tostones as a side dish, as a breakfast platter with eggs and salami or for dinner as well. There is no wrong way of eating tostones.
Ingredients:
- Green Plantains (one)
- Cooking oil ( 3 tablespoons)
- Salt
- Plantain masher
Let’s Cook:
- Cut the plantains into medallions or diagonally (an inch apart)
- In a pan add the cooking oil
- Start placing the plantains slowly into the hot oil and cook for about 2minutes or so, or until you see the edges turning brown
- Now turn the other side of the plantains for a minute or so
- Place on a plate with a napkin so it can absorb the oil
- now you are ready to mash the Plantains so it can get its shape
- Once you mash the plantains place them again on the hot cooking oil and fry for a minute or so, you just want to get a crunch from them
- Once you fried both sides, place them on the plate with the napkins so it can absorb the oil again
- Now just sprinkle some salt and you have yourself some delicious Tostones at hand
Enjoy!
