I have to say that one of the things that drives me crazy is when my house looks like a hot mess. And if you have kids it gets worse, seriously you have to walk on top of piles of toys and you might even fall because you stepped on one of your kids’ toys that have wheels on it. I needed to find a way or multiple ways to keep my house clean, to save my sanity.
I have three children so the amount of toys that they have is endless and the amount of mess in the house is no different. I got rid of some of the toys that they don’t need or didn’t play with often. I actually gave some to my older sister who has a childcare business. The other toys were ready to say “hi” to the garbage can.
Keeping a house clean when you have kids is hard. But it is not impossible to keep your house clean and I have come into a conclusion that you have to have a few little tricks into doing that.
I’m sharing with you 5 simple ways that makes it easier to have and keep a clean house. I have applied all of my tips at some point or another and it really works! Hope this helps.

1.Have a toy basket
Ever since my first daughter was born, I’ve had a toy basket because it is tremendously helpful in keeping my house clean and messy free. I usually keep the toy basket in the living room of my house because that’s where my kids play. I love this idea because the kids can play with their toys and then put it right back where it belongs.
When my kids are done playing I just grab all the toys real quick and just throw them inside their toy box. If your kids are old enough, they can definitely help you put their toys back in the basket. I have to admit that I sometimes use my twins play pen as a toy box too. Declare me guilty of that.I also bought an ottoman for the living room last year, which is great because it has storage inside where you can put things in . Of course I put the kids toys in there, why not? It’s perfect, specially when visitors are coming over. Easy clean up.
2. Clean at night
Another great way to keep your house clean is to do the cleaning at night. Once everybody goes to sleep I take that time to tidy up the house a bit. It gives me a great feeling to wake up in the morning with a clean looking home and messy free environment. Even though we all know this will be over soon, at least the house is clean and not messy, because mess brings more mess.
If you clean at night, it gives you a chance to focus on something else when you wake up in the morning. For example, maybe you want to watch a favorite T.V show, cook a great recipe, drink your coffee or anything fun of that nature without having a pile of clutter staring at you in the morning. Also if you clean your home at night, you can do it even faster because you do not have your children slowing you down. It’s awesome.
3. Set-up a deep cleaning day
To set-up a deep cleaning day means that on that specific day you are going to tackle the whole house. You are going to clean the bathrooms, kitchen, living room, and bedrooms, give it love and clean clean clean. This is a good idea because on the other days you will just surface clean, like broom the house and pick up after your kids, you get me?
This way you will take some heavy load off your shoulders and just focus on the little things, maybe you need to de-dust a table or mop the floor that your child just peed on because he/she refused to wear diapers. Anything of that nature and your surface cleaning most likely will be the mess your kids make, and dishes of course.
If you want to take your cleaning game seriously, I suggest you check out The Organized Home! It’s an online course, where you are going to learn how to clean each room of your house, how to clean less and find more peace at home. Also, if you’re having a hard time finding where important things are in your home, then check out The Organized Home!
4. Encourage your kids help
If your kids are old enough, let them help you clean. There is nothing better than to teach your child some responsibility and give them chores. My twins are lucky enough not to have responsibilities or chores yet but their 5 year-old sister is starting to. I have my 5-year old daughter help with cleaning up her toys and any mess that she makes. If she is done eating her food, then she has to take her plate to the kitchen and things like that.
I think starting at an early age molds your child to be a more responsible and clean person. My mom would give me and my sisters assigned chores, and we would hate it, ha! If you have older kids then definitely have an assigned chore for them, maybe in the weekend and this way they already know who will be doing the dishes or who will clean the bathroom and so on. This will make you a happy mama!
5. Have visitors come over
This may sound silly but I find it very effective! Come on, this is the best express cleaning you can do in your house. You know what I am talking about, when you are seriously unprepared to have visitors come over and all of a sudden you receive that phone call that changes everything.
That call that says “I will be at your house in 20 minutes,” you hang up the phone and look at the mess in your house and let out a slow motion scream “Nooooo”. After that you immediately transform yourself into this express cleaning service lady and you clean your heart out. I am saying like clean in places you never thought you would and Heck! your house is cleaner than ever in under 2o minutes! Bring on the uninvited guests please.
I always say A Clean house Makes for a Happy Wife.
Keeping a house clean with kids, can be a bit hard but it can totally be doable. You just have to find smart little ways that are going to help you achieve just that.
