Can you believe Thanksgiving is already here!? It’s unbelievable how fast the holidays have come this year but I am not complaining. Bring on the food, the laughter, the music and again the food because you know that when it comes to the holidays the word diet is not in my vocabulary.
My daughter’s teacher already sent out the list of the food that my daughter has to bring for their little thanksgiving party. My daughter was in charge of bringing the cupcakes, how fun! She is super excited about this party and let’s hope she doesn’t think there will be goodie bags full of candies and toys, haha! seriously though.
So since Thanksgiving is only a few days away, I thought I’ll share with you my 6 helpful tips for having a stress free Thanksgiving. As you may know that when the holidays comes around, the stress level rises because we want everything to be and look perfect. From the food, the house decorations, the music and even our clothes, everything must be PERFECT or at least look like it is.
6 helpful tips for having a stress free Thanksgiving:
1.Meal prep:
I think this is very important if you want to have less stress on Thanksgiving day. Prep as much as you can, either the night before or a couple of days before. Prep the food that you know you do not have to make the same day from scratch, for example the pie crust and filling if you are planning on making homemade pies and just keep it refrigerated until it’s time to bake in the oven. Also, my family loves to eat and make empanadas, so what we do is have the filling ready to go and refrigerated, so when it comes down to frying it, we already have the filling ready and we do not need to worry about it later.
2.Assign a dish:
Assign a dish to each of your guests to bring and eliminate the stress! Do not cook everything yourself and do not feel shy or uncomfortable asking your friends and family to bring a dish or a drink. This will help you out a lot and you will feel less stressful. Even if you are the host, I do not think that you have to carry all of the weight, you know? plus, you do not need to assign, you can simply ask them to cook or bring whatever food that they want and know that taste delicious.
3.Plastic plates and cups:
Do you want to end up doing all of the dishes once your guests leave your house? I didn’t thinkso either! So buy plastic plates and cups and eliminate the stress of cleaning afterwards. Having plastic plates and cups is so convenient in that after everybody is done eating and drinking, they simply throw it in the garbage. Easy cleaning. Also this may sound or look tacky to some of you, but I live by this, specially for the holidays when you know there will be a lot of people.
4.Have your clothes and your children’s clothes ready:
Be ahead of the game whether you are hosting Thanksgiving this year or you will be a guest. Having your clothes picked out will save you some stress and time. This will help you focus on what’s important which is the food!
5.Drink wine and listen to music:
Relax and take it easy. Around the holidays I like to listen to music a little bit more than usual because this is the happiest time of the year. Do not ruin the moment with stress, drink your favorite wine, coffee and enjoy the holiday. Listening to your favorite song will make you happy and make Thanksgiving day more fun, even if you are cooking or cleaning the house.
6.Get a goodnight sleep:
As you may know by now, sleeping is essential for feeling energized and having the right attitude for taking on the day. When you have a good night sleep, you do things more efficiently the next day. So try to rest and go to bed earlier than you are accustomed too because it will benefit you greatly.
These are my top 6 tips to having a stress-free Thanksgiving. I hope you find them helpful and are on your way to having a less stressful Thanksgiving!
