When I found out I was having a boy (has a twin sister) I immediately discussed with my hubby if we were going to circumcise him or not. It’s a discussion that I’m sure you had with your spouse and it’s something that you both need to agree on. You can also discuss with your doctor as to what is best to do.
A day or two after my son was born, he was circumcised and so the care for his circumcision to heal correctly and pain free began right away. I had great nurses who helped me care for his circumcision and provided me with useful tips. Something to keep in mind is that the circumcised area heals between 7 to 10 days.
If your newborn baby recently had a circumcision, please read the useful tips below. Know what you need to do in order to care for your baby’s circumcision correctly and effectively. 4 helpful tips for your baby boy’s circumcision care
1.Avoid touching the healing area
Do your best to not touch your baby boy’s penis while it’s healing. You have to let it heal on it’s own. If you are constantly touching it to check if it’s healing correctly, it may cause an infection. Remember that your baby’s penis is very sensitive right now and so it may cause him pain or discomfort.
Quick tip:
Have patience and let time heal your baby boy’s circumcision.

2.Petroleum jelly (vaseline)
Applying petroleum jelly or vaseline on your baby’s healing area is recommended by doctors and nurses to do. It helps your baby’s penis from sticking to his diapers.
Quick tip:
Apply the petroleum jelly carefully to the tip of your baby boy’s penis. Apply it every time you change your baby’s diapers and after taking him a bath.

3.Let it breathe
When I would change my son’s diapers and after applying the petroleum jelly on it, I would let the healing area breathe by not putting on his diapers right away. I would usually wait about 5 minutes or so before I would put his diapers on. He seemed so much comfortable that way.
Quick tip:
Make sure your son’s diapers are not tight. This will limit the pressure on his penis there for making him feel more content and comfortable.
4.Keep it clean
A very important tip for your baby boy’s circumcision care is to keep it clean at all times. When you are bathing him, remember to use warm water and a cloth or sponge. Gently clean your son’s penis and pat dry with a cloth. Do not use wipes or soap (unscented soap is okay to use) when you are changing his diapers, instead use a cloth with warm(not too hot) water and carefully clean any poop or pee that may have gotten on it.
Be gentle and thorough when cleaning your son’s healing area.
There are a few things you should know about the care of your baby boy’s circumcision. For example, what is normal and what is not?
What is normal?
