1.Exercise
I know putting exercise as a priority can make you feel a little uneasy. First of all you are probably thinking ” with what time am I going to exercise?” Yes! I know, I was you last year. But let me tell you this, I now exercise about 3 to 4 times a week. I put one of the many YouTube exercising videos and exercise for 20 to 30 minutes each time! I feel amazing and energized every single time!
You have to think smart about how to schedule exercising into your busy life. For example, When my twins were babies, I would put them in their pack -n- play playard and they would watch me exercise. My oldest daughter would sometimes join me. Now, since they are older (9,5,5) I exercise after they have finished doing their homework and have play time. It only takes 20 minutes and you are doing your body a favor. It’s important to exercise mama!
2. Drink water
There’s a lot of benefits from drinking water that there’s no reason why you shouldn’t. For example, it regulates your body temperature, helps maintain your blood pressure, helps with your skin and so much more! Drink up!
If water alone is not your cup of tea, try adding fruits to infuse your water or buy a cute water bottle to motivate you to drink it 🙂
3. Change your eating habits
With putting time in your schedule to exercise, you can easily change your eating habits as well. It’s all about having a balance with the food that you are eating.Try adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet and try to consume less greasy foods.
A few of my favorite recipes you can try today:
1. Chicken salad stuffed avocado
4. Rest
Even though we have this “go go go” mentality, we’re always busy and we can’t seem to say no to everyone and everything. It’s important to also, take it easy and rest. Know your limits and listen to your body. It’s crucial for you to give your body some much needed rest. If you are not able to take naps during the day, try going to sleep 30 minutes earlier than you usually do. Make it a habit to put sleep as a priority in your busy life mama, you need it.
5. Don’t miss your doctor’s appointments
Just like you do not miss any of your children’s doctor’s and dentist appointments, you shouldn’t miss yours either. As a matter of fact, you need to pick up your phone and schedule an appointment now. Get your regular yearly checkups with your general family doctor, gynecologist and dentist. It’s important to keep up to date on your health and make sure you are healthy. Again mama, in order to take good care of your family, you need to take good care of yourself first.
6. Have an organized home
Don’t you feel less stressed and more happy when you walk into your house and is nice, clean and organized? I love that feeling and it even makes me feel more energized and productive. The feeling of a clean home is priceless but sometimes to be honest we don’t have that luxury. 7. Read motivational books
I love to read and this was something I did not know about myself, until I started reading motivational books. I couldn’t stop buying and reading them. Find the time in your busy life to read a book, it de-stresses you, helps you relax and can makes you feel happy. You can read 15 minutes before going to bed or 15 minutes before getting your kids ready for school. I read an article (don’t remember which one) that said, we shouldn’t use the phone 30 minutes before going to sleep. Instead we should read a book, because it relaxes us and makes us fall asleep faster!
A few of my favorite books:
- You are a Badass
- Unfu*k Yourself : Get out of your head and into your life
- Awaken the Giant Within
- Get your Sh*t Together
8. Don’t stress the small stuff
This one is a big one, do not stress the small stuff instead learn how to let things go. If your child spills his juice on the floor, do not get mad or stressed out about it. Instead breathe, calm yourself down and then proceed with asking your child to help you clean it and tell him to be careful next time. There are so many other things that deserves our time and emotions, that we don’t need to add more to the list.
Do not stress the small stuff and you’ll see how happier you’ll be.
9. Beautified yourself
Find time to make yourself look and feel pretty. Wear make up, do your hair and wear nice clothes. By nice clothes I mean, leggings and a cute shirt, haha! or whatever floats your boat. Honestly, it’s all about how all of these things makes you feel. For me putting on makeup and doing my hair makes me feel good, alive and productive. Changing my clothes from my pajamas to something more presentable during the day helps me get things done, be more happy and feel beautiful .
If you stay in your pajamas or sweat pants all day long and don’t do your hair, you are going to feel lazy, ugly (speaking from experience here) and overall not be in a good mood. You don’t want that.
10. Practice self control
Practicing self care even when you’re busy is important for your well being. Practicing self control is also part of this self care journey mama. Self control to not yell at your kids so easily, to not loose your patience and to be happy even when you think it’s hard. All of these things will take time, but we can practice each day to be a better person and a better mom.

11. Connect with your family or friends
Sometimes all we need is to talk to a close family member or a friend. It will do your heart and mind good to connect with the people that you love. I always feel happy when I go out shopping with my sisters because I forget about the stress from home, I get to be me and relax for once. Going out alone, without your kids is totally okay, you need to have fun too!Â
Call your sister, mom, friend and talk to them. Go out, shop, eat, do something for you. You are not going to regret it!
Remember mama that you also matter, your health and well being matters too. Do not forget these self care tips and implement them in your life. No matter how busy you may be, taking care of yourself should be a priority 🙂
