1.Buy+Decorate the Christmas tree
This is by far my kids favorite thing to do during Christmas time. They love decorating our Christmas tree and I of course let them and then fix it once they’re done! You can definitely make it a family affair, have Christmas songs playing in the background while you all decorate the Christmas tree. You can all decide what color your Christmas tree will be decorated and go on from there. It really is all about making your house special and beautiful for the holidays.
2. Go to the movies
Another fun thing to do with your kids this Christmas is to go to the movies and watch a Christmas movie. During this time of the year, Christmas movies make their way to the theaters. So, pick a movie you all want to see, buy your popcorn, candy and drink, and enjoy the movie! Get into the Christmas spirit!
3. Bake cookies
Oh give me all of the cookies there is, because I love to eat cookies, specially chocolate chip cookies during the holidays. Good bye diet for a minute, haha! My kids also love eating cookies and helping me out in the kitchen. So I get them involved. You can make it a family cookie night, bake some of your favorite cookies (sugar cookies, oatmeal cookies or double chocolate chip cookies) and bond with your family.
This cookie baking kit is great for kids!
4. The Elf on the Shelf
I just started getting into the Elf on the Shelf “tradition” last year. This year I will do it again, it was so much fun watching my kids behave around the elf. The Elf on the Shelf “reports” to Santa every night if your kids have been naughty or nice that day. Which is perfect because your kids will want to behave in order to get presents on Christmas day! I love the concept of it and I I also have fun hiding the Elf around the house. If you still don’t have your own Elf on the Shelf, you can purchase it here.
5. Watch Christmas movies at home
Christmas movies to the rescue! I love how some t.v channels play Christmas movies starting on December 1st till Christmas day. It’s a great way for you and the kids to catch up on some old Christmas classics, like Rudolf the red nose reindeer. My favorite Christmas movies to watch are Elf and A Christmas Story, I watch it every single year around this time. You can also, find movies on Netflix like The Grinch and much more.
Cozy up on your couch, with blankets and enjoy the movie!
6. Arts and crafts
If your kids love to be creative and you need to entertain them, making arts and crafts is another way to have fun this Christmas with your kids. You can setup a table, place all of your crafty items on it, or just crayons, glue and construction paper and let them be free! This is a great way for your kids to express themselves and also bond with one another.
Last year, each of my kids made a cute Christmas letter to a young boy who had cancer. I read his story online and all he wanted for Christmas was Christmas letters sent to him. He was given only a few days to live and he was in the hospital. I explained to my kids the reason behind why I wanted them to make this little sweet boy Christmas cards and they were so excited to make it and send it to him.
7. Hot chocolate with marshmallows
Okay, doesn’t hot chocolate with marshmallows just screams winter and Christmas! I think it does and so I always make hot chocolate with marshmallows for my family and I to enjoy! It’s so good! You can also add mint candy if you’d like or caramel! Oh gosh I’m drooling!
8. Letter to Santa
Every year my kids write a letter to Santa. I help my youngest kids to write the letter or my oldest daughter does it for them. They all decide what they want for Christmas, they decorate their letters and then they give it to me. I then “mail” it out to Santa! I just love how happy my kids get when they are writing the letters, it’s so funny and cute. You can get this fun letter to santa kit and watch your kids faces beam with happiness!
9. Ice skating
You know, I have never been ice skating before, but I want to take my kids ice skating this year. I think it will be so much fun and a new experience for them. Christmas time is all about those special family moments you create and memories that will stay for ever in our hearts. If you have an ice skating ring around where you live, by all means go for it. Try something new!
10. Joy ride around the neighborhood
It’s amazing how people decorate their houses during Christmas, I just love it. It’s like they compete with one another to see who has the best Christmas decorated house, who has the most lights and Christmas characters. My hubby and I, love to go on joy rides around our neighborhood, so our kids can look at all of the Christmas lights and fun decorations people have on their house. They love it and you know what? It’s a great way to bond with the family.
You have conversations about it, you start thinking about how you are going to decorate your own house next year and so on. Going on a Christmas joy ride around your neighborhood is also a cheap way to have fun, get out of the house and spend quality time with your family.
I hope these ideas can help you have fun with your kids this Christmas. As you can see they were pretty easy and simple ideas, but don’t let that fool you. It makes the best of memories and you will truly have fun with your family!
