You just never know what’s going to happen or what you will experience with each pregnancy. With my first pregnancy, I was happy, full of energy and morning sickness free. With my twin pregnancy, it was different! I felt sick, I had no energy and I had food aversions which was horrible.

These Important pregnancy essentials are going to help you enjoy your pregnancy and feel more comfortable and happy!

1.Prenatal vitamins

Prenatal vitamins are very important for you to take even if you’re trying to get pregnant. Taking these vitamins will help cover any nutritional gap that you may be missing. It contains vitamins and minerals, like folic acid, iron, calcium, among many more. Taking prenatal vitamins is also important in helping your baby grow strong and healthy and preventing neural tube birth defects.

Quick tip:

You can either buy the pre-natal vitamins at any pharmacy or you can get them prescribed by your doctor. My OBGYN prescribed me with my prenatal vitamins and iron pills because I needed and extra dose of iron with my twin pregnancy. If you’re not a pill lover or simply have a hard time swallowing it, ask to see if they have chewable ones!

2.Body pillow

Oh man, this pregnancy body pillow was everything in my twin pregnancy, thanks to my hubby who bought it for me. I didn’t have a body pillow with my first pregnancy but once I realized the importance of having one while pregnant, I recommend it to every pregnant mama I see. It’s super comfortable and it helps you sleep better at night. It basically wraps around your body making it easier for you to sleep and just relax.

3.Stretch mark lotions

You can’t go living your happy pregnancy life without stretch mark creams or lotions. I have to say that I had about three different ones because I wanted to try them all out!Stretch mark lotions and creams help hydrate your belly and keeps it soft, along with helping reduce your stretch marks. It was great and it works! You can try this one or this one, I purchased both.

Quick tip:

I found that baby oil also helps in keeping your pregnant belly soft, so I would apply it after taking a shower. Also, whatever you do, do not scratch your belly if it’s itching because this can produce stretch marks. Yes, I know you may or may not believe me, but this is sort of an “old wives tale” that my family swears by.

4.Ginger ale soda and crackers

Crackers and ginger ale soda were my best friends during my pregnancy because it kept my morning sickness at bay and it made me feel good. The crackers helped with my nausea and it was a quick and easy snack to carry around with me. The ginger ale soda helps you to not feel or be bloated and it also keeps your nausea under wraps.  Along with these two very important items, I would also have Gatorade at hand. Gatorade helps you stay hydrated and since doctors recommend it, why not? Try it, it does help!

5.Pregnancy books

With my first pregnancy, I bought two pregnancy books that I really enjoyed reading. I bought the very popular book of “what to expect when you’re expecting”and I also bought the Jenny McCarthy pregnancy book called “Belly Laughs”. Both books were fun and interesting to read. The “What to expect” book was informative and “Belly laughs” was funny and refreshing book to read.

6.Pregnancy apps

I was obsessed with pregnancy apps when I was pregnant with my kids. It’s a fun way to be in the know about your baby’s development and what body parts are forming. I have always found these information so much fun and helpful. You can download the Baby Center’s app or the What to expect app.

Quick tip:

Keep your partner up to date about the baby too! This will help him feel more connected to your baby and also share your excitement about your baby’s milestone in the womb. If you have kids already, share it with them too!

7.Comfortable clothing

Leggings and maxi dresses were my go to pregnancy style. I had summer pregnancies and so these items were very ideal and a no brainer to me. But, if you have a fall or winter pregnancy, wear comfortable leggings, sweaters and you’ll be fine. The key point here is to dress in loose fitting clothing, clothes that you will feel comfortable and pretty in. Also, if you still want to wear your cute jeans, having a belly band at hand will do the trick!

Here’s a fun pregnancy clothing guide you can check out!

8. Baby prep workbook

Having a baby workbook is something that I never thought of when I was pregnant. it’s helpful to have, specially as a first time mom. You’ll not only find worksheets such as registry and hospital bag checklists, but worksheets you may not have considered, such as a labor “game plan” with your partner and household items to stock up before the baby arrives.

9. Heartburn remedy

Heartburn during your pregnancy can be uncomfortable and annoying. I had really bad heartburn with both of my pregnancies. I found that TUMS really helped me feel so much better and it actually eased my heartburn. Having heartburn is more common during your third trimester, but can also happen during your second trimester as well.

10. Pregnancy journal

Having a pregnancy journal can be a fun way to track your pregnancy and record your feelings and everything that is happening during your pregnancy. This is something that you can look and read after and even compare it to your next pregnancy! I think it’s a fun way to keep distracted and a way to record your best and worst pregnancy moments!

I hope you found these pregnancy essentials helpful in having a more happy and comfortable pregnancy. These are all must haves for your first, second or third trimester.
