That’s why I’m sharing with you helpful ways on how to survive the first night home with a newborn! These are the tips and advice you want to hear about, trust me! There’s nothing like feeling confident as a new mom and surviving the newborn phase.
The first few weeks with a newborn is tiring, full of questions and so rewarding at the same time. When I brought my first born home for the first time, I was happy but I was also super nervous. I mean, I was a young mom who was bringing home her first baby without any experience. I did of course ask my mom for advice on the concerns that I had. What is one way to survive the first night home with your newborn? Calling your mom!
You need all of the help that you can get the first couple of days with your newborn. The first night you won’t sleep, your baby will wake up for the most part every 2 to 3 hours to feed, your hubby will most likely be sleeping and life as you know it, has truly began!
But it is totally possible to survive the first few weeks home with a newborn, feel joy and rock the newborn stage!

2. Have a Diaper basket
Honestly having things organized around the house is a must! Specially for a new mom who just had a baby. Have a diaper basket and put your baby’s diapers, wipes and diaper rash cream in there. Have it in sight and organized in one place!

3. Have baby bottle ready
This tip is only for moms who are not exclusively breastfeeding of course! If you want to survive the first night home with your baby, have baby’s bottle ready, either with your breastmilk or with formula. If you’re using formula make sure you read the instructions on how to prepare it and store it 🙂

4. White noise
Having a white noise machine can be something that you may want. As it helps baby sleep longer and soothes baby to sleep! Of course you want to create good sleeping habit for baby early on. So, having one of these is a beneficial!
5. Ask for help
I said it once and I will say it again, ask for help mama! There is nothing wrong with that. You need help, let’s face it because the first few days with a newborn baby is hard! It will test you and your mind, you will start doubting yourself as a new mom, you are going to cry, you are going to be clueless.
The more you ask for help the better. Ask your partner for help, your parents and friends. Trust me, they are waiting for you to just ask.

6. Have a bassinet
Is better to have your baby sleep in the same room as you, at least for the first month or so. Your newborn baby needs you and it is easier if you can care for him/her being in the same room. Specially for the night time feedings!
7. Make sure room is at room temperature
Sometimes babies do not sleep well if the room that they are sleeping in is either too warm or too cold. So make sure your bedroom is at room temperature in order for baby to sleep faster and longer!
8. Wrap them up
Newborn babies love to feel like they are in the womb because it gives them comfort. You should try swaddling baby as it creates a cozy, womb-like feeling for baby and it also prevents startle reflex that can wake your baby up! I hear a lot of moms swear by it!

9. Sleep when baby sleeps
Yes I know, you’re probably rolling your eyes as you read this. But, it will help you survive the first few months with baby! I slept in the afternoon when my twins would take their naps and boy am I grateful for it! It helped me survive the crucial late nights with twins and I felt good!
So mama, sleep when baby is sleeping, at least try to, I promise you, you are going to thank me later 🙂
10. Pacifier to the rescue?
I must admit that none of my kids used a pacifier when they were babies. And that’s because they didn’t like it! I never seen anything like that! ha! So, I am recommending the use of the pacifier only during the night as a soother for your baby.
I tried giving it to my kids when they were babies and crying unconsolable and I was desperate. But, they didn’t like it! Just try it and see if it works for your baby.

All I am going to say to you, is that you got this mama! You are doing great so far. Know that everything that you’re going through, I went through as well and other moms as well. You are not alone in this thing called motherhood. And if you’re a new mom, just know that this is a stage and it too shall pass!
