I always say no one can be a perfect mom but you can always be a good mom. Let’s face it, motherhood is unbelievably hard at times and because of it we may sometimes act in a way that we don’t want to. We may yell at our kids, be in a bad mood or loose our patience too quickly.

Look mama, I don’t want you to feel bad about it because that’s life. You are bound to make mistakes and learn from it. You already took the first positive step in your motherhood journey. And that is searching for ways to be a better and good mom.

Being a good mom is easy. Being a perfect mom is not. So let’s thrive in being the best mother and parent that we can be for our children. You are going to feel good about yourself. Your positive energy will transmit to your kids and partner.

I don’t think there are special qualities to being a good mom. I do think there are things that you can do to be a better mom. Anyone can be a good mom.

1.Have time for yourself

In order to be a good mom, you need to have time for yourself. You need to do things that you love. You’ll be a more happy human and therefore have more patience with your kids. Taking time for self care and self love is so important for you physically and mentally. You deserve it and this will definitely help you be a better mother.

2.Make your health a priority

Along with having self care, you need to make your health a priority. Go to your dotor’s appointments, eat healthier, exercise and just breathe. Your health is super important because your family counts on you for basically everything. If you’re not healthy, you will reflect it to your kids, you’re going to be in a not so good mood, you’ll feel down most of the time and you won’t be able to care for your family the way that you want to.

3. Read books that helps you grow as a person

Take some time to read motivational books that will inspire you to be a better person. You can read books about business, motherhood, spirituality or any other topic. Reading a book will expand your mind, you are going to learn and you are going to feel better about yourself. There are so many different books about different topics. Books about being a better parent, books about losing weight, books about self care, books about becoming rich. Pick one mama!

4. Do not strive to be perfect

One way you can guarantee to be a good mom is to not think that you have to be perfect. There is no such thing as a perfect mother, sorry. There is a thing as a good mother. Do not compare yourself to other moms either because that’s only going to create doubt in yourself and how you are as a mom. You don’t need that in your life.

Just be you, be a real parent. You will make mistakes and that is totally okay. Learn from it and move forward.

5. Don’t be quick to react

As moms we may be too quick to react to our children’s behavior. This will make us snap at them, yell at them or just be an angry mom. Which is not good for you or your kids. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about disciplining bad behavior because let’s be real. But, sometimes kids can make a silly mistake and we are too quick to react in a negative way.

For example:

Your child may have spilled her juice when you just finished telling her to be careful. Instead of yelling, just tell her, “It’s okay, next time please listen to me and be more careful. Go grab something to clean this up”. You’re giving your child responsibility for her actions but still being understanding and loving.

6. Stay organized

Going crazy with housework? Can’t find your car keys? I mean being disorganized can drive anyone crazy, specially you mom! Being more organized is going to help you be less stressed and not feel like your drowning in chaos. So stay organized and be a happier, less stressed mother.

7. Make family time count

How do you make family time count? Let go of your phone, computer, laptop. Anything that is ruining your chances of really being present with your family, you should turn off. Be more present with your kids, your husband, yourself. It’s going to help you be a good mom for sure. Make family count by playing with them, going out on family trips, cooking together and having movie nights!

8. Really listen to your child

Have you notice how sometimes your child is telling you a really long story and you just nod your head “yes” or say “wow, really?”. But you are not really listening? Yeah, girl, I do the same thing sometimes, ha! But, when we actually stop and listen to our kids crazy stories, it really makes us feel happy and entertained. They are so excited to talk to us and we really need to put a better effort in listening and being present for them.

9. Plan fun weekend trips

I love planning fun family trips with my family, it just makes me so happy. So, I’m encouraging you to do the same. Plan a quick fun trip to the park, to the zoo, to the aquarium, to the lake. I mean anything that you and your family enjoy doing, plan it and do it! This will help you relax, smile more, be fun and create loving memories with your family. In order to be a good mom, you need to spend time with your family.

10. Be loving and express joy

I love kissing and hugging my kids all of the time. I say “I love” more than they want me to, haha! But, it’s what I love doing, I love showing my kids love and affection. You can too! If you’re not an affection person, you can do other things to show your kids love. Like, writing them a letter or hanging out with your kids and talking.

Love on them and express joy to them. Do not be the mom that only displays anger. Be the mom who displays joy. Because your kids will get that vibe and you want them to see you as a happy parent not as an angry one.


Every mom can be a good mom. You are already doing a great job mama, but if you want to be a better mom, I hope these tips can help!
