1.Bathe before bedtime
This is a major “trick” that I learned to do with my first born and followed it with my twins. It never fails! Try to always take your baby a bath before putting her to sleep at night. You can even get away with cloth bathing, the point is that your baby will feel fresh and clean. The water will help your baby relax and make her sleepy.
Helpful bath items:
2. Clean and dry diapers
Another great baby sleeping tips is that the last diaper change should always be before baby goes to sleep for the night. It should always be before feeding your baby her last meal for the day. Do not change your baby’s diaper after feeding her because she will most likely fall asleep and you can potentially wake her up. You do not want to run the risk mama!
Give your baby a massage with lotion and exercise her cute little legs by making bicycle motions with her legs. Again, this will her your baby’s muscles relax and get her ready for bedtime.
These were my favorite diaper items:
3. Comfortable clothing
Babies can wake up in the middle of the night for any simple reason, like being uncomfortable in their clothes. Make sure your baby is wearing appropriate clothing for the temperature in their room. For example, if their room is typically warm, you may want your baby to wear short sleeve pajamas. If your baby’s room is on the colder side, long sleeve shirt and pajama pants is the way to go.
It’s all about making your baby cozy and comfortable for bedtime.
Love these clothing options:
4. Feeding bottles (if not exclusively breastfeeding)
Did you know that some baby bottles give your baby gas? Yes! Gassy babies are unhappy and uncomfortable babies, you do not want to wake up in the middle of the night with a crying gassy baby (been there done that and it’s not fun). Choosing the right bottles for your baby to drink their formula or breast milk in, is so important and overlooked.

5. Feed before sleep
I‘m a believer of having my babies tummy full before making them sleep at night. It has always worked for me, even with my twins! My mother and aunt told me this awesome trick and I couldn’t live without it. Feeding your baby before bedtime is going to help her not wake up frequently at night for a feeding. For some reason my kids would always fall asleep before even finishing their baby formula, and it was awesome! I did try to make them finish their bottles because if they didn’t, they would wake up asking for more.
If your baby is already eating solids, then by all means feed her, her last baby food before giving the bottle to her. One good trick that I want to share with you is that, I would add baby cereal or baby food (fruits) in their formula. Make sure baby is 4 months old or older to start introducing foods. It made their last bottle before going to sleep much heartier and there for I knew they were going to get a good night sleep.
6. Black out curtains
When my kids were babies they had a hard time falling asleep if the lights were on. If the television was on, they wanted to watch it and not fall asleep. Having a dark using these black out curtains and having a quiet room really helped my children fall asleep faster and it also helps them sleep longer of course! You can also have white noise in order to help your baby sleep longer, a lot of babies enjoy it.
7. Humidifier
If you do not own a humidifier yet, I recommend you get on the bandwagon now mama. Humidifiers help to keep the air your baby breathes clean and moist. It also helps your baby’s skin not get irritated because of the dry air.
Great humidifier options:
8. Shush baby to sleep
Shushing baby and making back and forth movements is another excellent baby sleeping tips and advice. It was my go to method to help my kids fall asleep faster. You can even shush them to sleep in the middle of the night if they wake up, by patting their butt and using the shushing method. The shushing sound will give your baby a feeling of comfort and relaxation. It soothes them to sleep and that’s a great trick to use if you are having a hard time making your baby sleep faster and longer.
9. Routine
I am a strong believer of having a sleep time routine and even a nap time routine for your baby. It’s super important that babies have a structured and disciplined schedule. This will help them know what to expect during those times. If you have a routine, their bodies will get used to it and you will see how they will start rubbing their eyes when it’s almost time for bedtime.
In any baby sleeping tips book or blog you read, having a routine with your baby is a must. It will help you have a more organized life. It seriously saved me from all the hassle and overwhelm that it could have caused if I didn’t have a routine.
