When people and by people I mean moms, think about the postpartum period. It’s literally a blur. A painful long blur. I mean, think about it? You are still in pain from giving birth, you’re sleep deprived and you’re trying to survive life with a newborn baby.

Yeah, the “fourth trimester” ain’t cute at all. But, It is possible to rock it and find joy in it! Yes! I’m serious. I hope these postpartum tips will help you find joy during your postpartum life. I know it’s what you need to help you get through it!

Now keep in mind that these tips are not on how to take care of your baby. Instead is about how to take care of mom, you! Because often times when you’re pregnant you’re too busy making sure baby has everything he/she needs. But you forget about what you need after you give birth in order to make it more enjoyable.

This is about you mama. This is your time.

1.Have the basic essentials

So let’s get things right off the bat. In order to rock your postpartum life you must stock up on essentials to help you recover faster from childbirth. The better you feel and the faster you heal, the more enjoyable your life after birth will be. So here are a few things to have at hand:

A.Large pads

The minute you give birth, you get your “period”. There goes 9 months of pure joy. You will experience heavy bleeding and so a large pad is very well recommended! I loved using these maxi pads!

B.Postpartum belly wrap

A postpartum belly wrap which is also known as a girdle is beneficial in helping your core abdominal muscles and helps reduce your uterus to its original size (yay!). It’s also great if you had a C-section!

C.Reusable Perineal Cooling Pad

Um hello! I wish I used these after giving birth to my kids. This is amazing and will feel like heaven if you just had a tear or a episiotomy. It also great for Hemorrhoid Pain Relief. It reduces swelling and any vaginal discomfort. These are reusables too! Grab one here!

D.Sitz bath

Have yourself a sitz bath mama! Again, I truly wished I knew about this when I gave birth. But I didn’t. But I am making sure that you do know about this. So a sitz bath basically helps treat and reduce pain from a hemorrhoid or episiotomy.

You sit on water and pour the sitz bath salt and relax.

2. No mom guilt allowed

Girl! Whatever you do during your postpartum period, don’t feel mom guilt! Gosh this one is a big one and one that so many moms (including myself) feel. It’s not healthy mama! It’s not good for you to feel mom guilt when you are basically learning as you go. You are learning the ropes of being a mother, of taking care of your newborn baby. Also, trying not to kill your spouse when he sleeps like a baby in the middle of the night. ha!

So give yourself some grace. Give yourself love. And take it one day at a time. But do not feel mom guilt because you will make mistakes but you will learn from them.

3. Nurture your relationship with your spouse

Can we talk about our relationship after having a baby. Some will flourish and do great. But some will crash and burn. Well maybe not burn but will crash some. Why? Because you will forget about nurturing your relationship because you’re too busy taking care of your baby.

Which is understandable. But that’s why I’m sharing this with you. Do not forget about your partner. Make sure you both talk about the ups and downs of being new parents. And be the best mom dad team ever!

4. Focus on self-care

How many friends or family members advice you to practice selfcare? I’m going to take a good guess and say, not many! But I am here to tell you that if you want to rock your postpartum life, you must make time for selfcare. Taking care of yourself and putting your wellbeing first will help you better care of your baby and family. Happy mom equals happy kids.

My ebook will help you eliminate those first time mommy struggles and help you rock your first year with a newborn. Learn how to practice selfcare, have a routine for your baby, avoid sleep deprivation and more. Read it here!

5. Ask for help

When did asking for help become a taboo? I mean moms are afraid of asking for help because they fear judgement. Or they feel like a bad mom (eliminate that guilt mama!) or they feel they should be able to do everything themselves. Come on! Let’s stop that negative belief right here right now. I am telling you that asking for help will only help you become a better human.

So ask for help when you need the help. This will eliminate the stress and anxiety it causes when you don’t ask for help. Also, accept the help when others are offering you. It takes a tribe to raise a baby, so let them in!

6. Sleep when you can

I know you’ve heard this one before. Listen to this tip. Sleep when you can. If you’re tired, sleep when baby sleeps. It’s going to help you feel better. I know sleep deprivation is real right now and so when baby finally goes to sleep. Take advantage of that! You need it and you deserve it!

Here’s an excellent ebook that will teach you how to get your baby to sleep longer through the night by self-soothing! I mean amazing!! Check it out here!

7. Get up and get dressed

This one is a good one! And one that I learned after the birth of my first born baby. You must dress up and show up even when you don’t want to. Wake up in the morning and put some cute clothes on, do your hair and put some makeup on. Not only do you look good, you are going to feel good too!

It’s crazy how simple dressing up can change your entire mood. All of a sudden you have more patience, are more acceptable of guests wanting to visit you and the baby. Your self esteem will increase. It’s an all around positive booster.

8. Don’t stress the house chores

Do not stress the small stuff in life. Like your house chores, I mean no one cares how your house looks like. They care about how you and the baby are! So just chill a bit. Now, don’t get me wrong, you should tidy up the house here and there. But do not stress over it. If your friend or a family member offer to clean your house, then girl! say yes!

9. Eat and stay hydrated

I have heard so many stories about moms forgetting to eat! I found that mind blowing, since I love food and I love to eat it, ha! But I can also see how they would forget. So, the point here is to eat and stay hydrated. Drink your water mama! Eating well and staying hydrated will help you heal faster from childbirth.

You can also, meal plan your meals, this way you’ll always have food to eat without you slaving in the kitchen everyday.

10. Connect with other moms

Feeling lonely? The best way to feel like you are not alone in this wonderful journey is to connect with other moms. Other. moms who are feeling the same way as you. It can be your friend, sister, cousin or neighbor. One way you can connect with other moms is to join facebook groups. Where you can ask questions and your feelings and journey. But remember mama, you will never be alone!
