Congratulations on your pregnancy mama! Wondering when do you start showing in pregnancy? Good question! I mean that was my number one question after finding out I was pregnant. You already want to start rocking your baby bump and actually start looking pregnant right?
When I was pregnant with my first born, I didn’t look pregnant until right in the beginning of my second trimester. With my second pregnancy with twins, I started showing at 2 months pregnant! Crazy!
So that goes to show you that it depends on a lot of different factors. I’ll be sharing those right now. Meanwhile, make sure you enroll in a good online birthing class like this one. It’s always a good idea to not go into labor clueless!
You either want to look pregnant already because you’re too excited, already told people or you are just impatient (like me, lol). Or you don’t want to show yet because you are keeping it a secret until later. Either way mama, I’m sharing with you the exact time you are going to start looking pregnant!
When will my pregnancy start showing?
It is very common and typical that first time moms start showing at around 12 to 16 weeks. This is because “By about 12 weeks, the uterus expands above the pubic bone,” and that will make your growing bump start being more noticeable. (source)
Keep in mind that some pregnant women may show earlier than others. It all depends on your body and quite frankly your uterus!

What If I start showing at 8 weeks pregnant?
At 8 weeks pregnant you will still feel like yourself and not pregnant. If you feel a baby bump, it can be that you are bloated. You may start to feel like your clothes are starting to feel tighter. Which is normal!
Reasons you may start showing earlier in pregnancy

1.Twins
Yay! You’re most likely pregnant with twins, triplets or quadruplets!! Well you get my point! Being pregnant with multiples can increase the chances of showing a baby bump earlier than most women with one baby. Your uterus is expanding and getting bigger in order to accommodate your babies.

2. Miscalculated due date
You may be surprised to know how so many moms miscalculate their due date. So, if you’re showing earlier than expected, it might be that your due date is wrong. Speak to your doctor in order to confirm it!

3.You are short
Welcome mama to the shorties club! ha! Another reason why you are showing earlier than expected in your pregnancy is because you are short and therefor have a short abdomen.
“If you have a short abdomen, your bump will likely pop out sooner than for taller women with a longer abdomen”.(source)
4. Less body fat
Someone who has less body fat will show earlier than mamas who have more body fat.
5. Not your first pregnancy
If this is not your first pregnancy, then mama you might just look pregnant earlier than you think. You see mama, your body already knows what to do and since it’s not your first pregnancy the muscles become weaker allowing the uterus to move forward quicker. Which translate to showing earlier.

Reasons you may start looking pregnant later on in your pregnancy
1.You are tall
Height can be a factor of whether you start showing earlier or later in your pregnancy. So taller means having a longer abdominal which has more space for your growing bump.
“Women who have a long abdomen may have more space for their uterus to develop upwards rather than outwards, which can give the appearance of a smaller bump,” (source)
2. More body fat
If you have more body fat, then you might show later on in your pregnancy. Your body has more space for your growing baby which can hide your baby bump.
3.Toned stomach muscles
Having defined toned body muscles can also be a factor of showing later on in your pregnancy. So if you have abs (lucky!!) then you might expect to show later than most women who do not have abs.

4. Age
If you’re younger you may show earlier because your uscles are still tight and therefor easier to show. If you are an older woman, you may show later in your pregnancy. This is due to your stomach muscles not being as tight and therefor can hide pregnancy.
When will I start showing with twins?
You can start showing as early as 8 weeks! Yes mama, I know I did! So get your maternity clothes out because you’re going to need them sooner than you might think!
Every woman and pregnancy is different. If you think there is something wrong with your pregnancy, please contact your doctor.
