crab and cream cheese empanadas

scrumptious, addicting crab and cream cheese empanadas
  • --16 oz frozen crabmeat / lata de cangrejo (16oz)
  • --empanada dough ( I purchased it pre-made in the supermarket 2 packages of 10) / masa para las empanadas
  • --2 tablespoons of cream cheese (original) / 2 cucharas de crema de queso
  • --1 teaspoon of turmeric powder / 1 cucharadita de curcuma en polvo
  • -- ½ tablespoon of oregano powder / ½ cuchara de oregano en polvo
  • -- salt to taste ( I used a little over a teaspoon) / sal al gusto
  • -- ground pepper to taste / pimiento al gusto
  • -- green and red bell pepper about ⅓ chopped / pimientos rojos y verdes cortadito
  • -- red onions ( to your liking) finely chopped / cebolla roja cortadita
  • ** Tartar sauce** / salsa tartara
  • -- 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise / 2 cucharas de mayonesa
  • --1½ tablespoons of chopped pickles / 1 cuchara y media de pepinillos cortaditos
  • --1/2 tablespoon of sugar / ½ cuchara de azucar
  • --a pinch of salt and pepper / pica de sal y pimienta
  • --1/2 tablespoon of parsley / ½ cuchara de perejil
  • -- juice of half a lime / jugo de medio lemon verde
  1. --In a skillet at medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of avocado oil (or any other cooking oil that you like) and cook the onions and bell pepper for about 5 minutes until soft and fragrant. / En un smarten agregar 2 cucharas de aceite de aguacate o cualquier otro tipo de aceite que uses. Cocinar la cebolla y pimientos por 5 minutos a fuego medio hasta que eaten suave.
  2. -- Add the crab meat ( is already fully cooked, I just want to heat it through and add flavor) and season it with liquid garlic, salt, group pepper, oregano and turmeric, mix well and continue to cook for about 8 minutes on medium heat. Set aside. \ agregar la masa de cangrejo y sazonar con sal y pimienta al gusto, oregano y curcuma en polvo y ajo. Cocinar por 8 minutos a fuego medio y dejar a un lado.
  3. -- in a bowl add the crab mixture and add the cream cheese, mix well and set aside./ en un bol agregar la mezcla de cangrejo y agregar 2 cucharas de crema de queso y mezclar muy bien.
  4. -- now, place one of the empanada dough on a clean surface or plate and start filling each one up. Place 1 tablespoon in a half of the crab mixture to one of the sides of the empanada. Fold the other side that does not have the mixture on and then seal it with a fork. Make sure you seal both sides of the empanada that way it fries perfect. Continue this step until there is no more crab mixture.
  5. -- In a skillet add cooking oil, enough to fry but not to deep fry the empanadas. On medium heat start frying the empanadas ( add one by one to the hot oil) Cook for about 1 minute or so and when the edges of the empanadas has a brown color, flip to the other side. Fry for about a minute and then place the empanadas on top of paper towel so it can absorb the oil. / en un smarten agregar uno por uno las empanadas y freer por 1 a 2 minutes a fuego medio. ya cuando veas que las orillas tienes un color marron, volte alas al otro lado y freer por 1 minuto. Poner en papel de tool para que absorba el aceite.
  6. -- *For the tartar sauce, just mix in the mayonnaise,chopped pickles sugar, salt, pepper, lime juice and parsley and mix very well. Serve with empanadas* / para la salsa de tartar, mezcle la mayonesa, pepinillos, azucar, sal ,pimienta,jugo de lemon y perejil. Mexcle muy bien y sirva con las empanadas!
